Can you get pets in The Sims 2?
With the exception of fish, not in the basic game. But the (appropriately named) expansion pack, Pets, allows you to have cats, dogs and more. See here for more about Pets.

I've lost my serial code! What do I do?
Residents of the USA can follow the instructions on this page. Replacement Serial codes cost $10, and require the proof of purchase page from the manual, or a CD as proof of purchase (if the manual has been lost).

If you're a resident of the UK or Ireland, I can't find any information on what you can do, so the only thing I can recommend is asking EA in the Support Centre.

Residents of Australia should try contacting EA using the details here. Residents of New Zealand should try contacting them using the phone number here, or via the US Support Center.

The serial code is missing from my product. What do I do?
Residents of the USA can see this page for information if the serial code is missing.

If you live in the UK or Ireland, I couldn't find any information on what to do, so I'd recommend asking EA at the UK Support Centre.

Has a patch came out yet?

How can I get a patch for my game?
To check for game updates, follow these instructions:

• For The Sims, I'm not aware of a way to get game updates anymore. If you search the internet, you might be able to find some websites hosting copies of them, but be careful.
• For The Sims 2, simply click "Start", "(All) Programs", "EA GAMES", "The Sims 2 [Expansion pack name if required]", then "Check for Update". These locations are the default, and may be different if you specified different locations during installation.
• For The Sims 3, open the game launcher then click Game Updates on the left. If any updates are available, tick them, then click Update Now.

Can you tell me any cheats for The Sims 2?
Sorry, I disapprove of cheats, they make the game boring. However, I will give you one cheat, which allows you to, among other things, build flooring etc. to the very edge of the lot and over the front pavement and road. It's useful for community lots. Simply hold down "Ctrl" and "Shift", then press "C" on the keyboard. The cheat box will appear at the top. Type "move_objects on", then press "Enter" on the keyboard. Turn it off by following the same procedure, but type "off" instead of "on" in the cheat code.
