I’ve just found details of the latest The Sims 3 game update, though I think it may have been released over a week ago. Here’s the details:

Base Game Updates

  • You can now collect Memories of significant moments in your Sims’ lives in the new Scrapbook. Custom Memories can also be created using the Capture This Moment tool. All Memories can be uploaded and shared on TheSims3.com and Facebook!
  • You can now adjust the lifespan length for each individual phase of life that a Sim goes through via the Options menu.
  • Live Mode
    • Sims can now ask other Sims out on dates!
    • Sims will now be given a Romantic Reputation based on their social interactions in the local dating scene.
  • Create a Sim
    • Body hair can now be applied on male Sims, from head to toe!
  • Build/Buy Mode
    • Players can now use the Catalog Filter in Build and Buy Mode to sort Content from different installed Expansion Packs and Stuff Packs, as well as content from The Sims 3 Store.

There’s also updates for the World Adventures, Ambitions, Late Night and Generations expansion packs with “Additional bug fixes and polish to existing features”. Click below to go to the news article where you can find that update checklist, unless of course you’ve already installed the updates, in which case it’s too late.

Want To “Murder” Your Sims In The Sims 3? IGN Tells You How

Thursday 5th May 2011 | 12:38 pm UK time | Categories

IGN has (somewhat randomly) posted a new feature covering the ways you can “murder” Sims in The Sims 3:

Drowning
This one has been a staple since the first game, but it’s a little more difficult to pull off in The Sims 3 because your Sims can actually crawl out of the pool without a ladder. How do you fix this? Simple – just build a wall around the pool.

Wednesday 9th March 2011 | 1:57 am UK time | Categories

The poll asking whether you were given The Sims 3 Late Night for Christmas has finally ended and the results are in. It seems more than half you bought it (or plan to buy it) yourself rather than get it for Christmas. Click below to see and discuss the full results.

I haven’t started a new poll yet as I’ve been sitting here for hours already trying to think of one and appropriate choices and not getting anywhere. If you have any ideas, please leave a comment!

Late Night Reviews Wrap-Up

Monday 20th December 2010 | 7:50 pm UK time | Categories

Nearly two months since its release, and with very few now being posted, I think it’s about time I wrapped-up my The Sims 3 Late Night reviews coverage – and in the unlikely event you’ve holding out on buying it until you saw this, it’s just in time for Christmas. As I have done previously, I’ll now compare the Ranking from GameRankings and Metascore from Metacritic that Late Night attained to those attained by its predecessors.

First, Metacritic. Late Night’s Metascore stands at 75 based on 14 reviews, which is one better than Ambitions (74, based on 25 reviews), but worse than World Adventures which has a ‘score of 81 (based on 31 reviews). It’s also lower than the base game’s ‘score, which is 86 (based on 75 reviews). Comparing it to The Sims 2 expansion packs, this is higher than the ‘scores attained by Bon Voyage (74) and FreeTime (74), but lower than every other one, except Apartment Life which has the same ‘score.

GameRankings then. Late Night’s Ranking is 80.00%, but this is based on just five reviews, so could change quite a lot if they add any more. Comparing what we’ve got now though, this is higher than Ambitions’ Ranking of 75.19% (based on eight reviews), but lower than World Adventures’ Ranking of 82.74% (based on 17 reviews). This is also lower than the Ranking attained by the base game – 86.65% based on 54 reviews. Late Night’s Ranking is higher than every The Sims 2 expansion pack bar University, which has a Ranking of 81.11% based on 31 reviews.

Go to the full article page (or scroll down a tad if you’re already there) for links to all the games mentioned on Metacritic and GameRankings with the Metascore or Ranking each one has in brackets.

If I become aware of any more Late Night reviews in the future, I won’t post about them here, but will still add them to the Reviews tab, and note that change on the Updates page. I still want to see your reviews too! Click the second link below, login with your Google, Yahoo!, AIM, Twitter, OpenID or NetLog account if you haven’t already, then type away.

Latest Late Night Reviews: GameSpot

Thursday 16th December 2010 | 6:20 pm UK time | Categories

At long last, GameSpot has reviewed The Sims 3 Late Night, giving it a rating of 7.5 out of 10, a score described as “good”:

On one hand, it’s disappointing that The Sims 3: Late Night isn’t as noteworthy as the previous expansions. On the other, it’s so much fun to grab your bandmates and go out for a night on the town, grooving and gabbing with the rich and famous, that you might temporarily forget you’ve seen some of this stuff before.

Since last time, the Metascore from Metacritic has gone up a point to 75, based on 13 reviews, while the Ranking from GameRankings has gone down a percentage point to 80.00%, based on five reviews. I’ll compare these to the scores attained by previous games and expansion packs when I wrap up my reviews coverage soon (when I have time, basically).

Wednesday 8th December 2010 | 11:45 pm UK time | Categories

It doesn’t look like we’re going to get any music videos to promote The Sims 3 Late Night, but I’ve got what’s probably the next best thing for you. You may remember the videos featuring clips of Jessica Mauboy recording her song “Saturday Night” for the soundtrack for Late Night and The Sims 3 on console, interspersed with her discussing the experience. Well now EA has released a video showing her recording the song in full:

Latest Late Night Reviews: IncGamers

Thursday 2nd December 2010 | 8:39 pm UK time | Categories

Two whole weeks after I posted about the last The Sims 3 Late Night review, I finally have another one for you – IncGamers rated it 8.0 out of 10:

Another solid expansion for The Sims 3 that, while not changing any fundamental aspects of the game, provides yet more charming ways for your little computer people to fail or succeed in their virtual lives.

 > The Sims 3 Late Night review at IncGamers

The Metascore from Metacritic remains at 74, now based on 11 reviews, while The Ranking from GameRankings is still based on just three reviews (so remains at 81.00%).

 > The Sims 3 Late Night at GameRankings

If you’re wondering why I still haven’t wrapped up my reviews coverage, it’s because there’s not enough reviews on GameRankings for me to be able to fairly compare The Ranking with those attained by previous expansion packs yet, and GameSpot (one of the biggest gaming websites) has still not posted a review, which surely they’re going to do considering the number of previews they did, right?
