Want To “Murder” Your Sims In The Sims 3? IGN Tells You How

IGN has (somewhat randomly) posted a new feature covering the ways you can “murder” Sims in The Sims 3:
Drowning
This one has been a staple since the first game, but it’s a little more difficult to pull off in The Sims 3 because your Sims can actually crawl out of the pool without a ladder. How do you fix this? Simple – just build a wall around the pool.
New The Sims 3 Game Update Allows Poltergeist Haunting Jobs To Complete On Lots With Hot Tubs, More

A new The Sims 3 game update has been released, fixing one issue with Ambitions, and one general issue:
Ambitions Updates
- The Poltergeist Haunting job will now properly complete when a Ghost Hunter is performing the job on lots containing hot tubs.
General Updates
- Corrected an issue that prevented launching the game from expansion pack or stuff pack desktop shortcuts for certain computer configurations.
Click Game Updates in the game launcher to install the updates, but not until you’ve followed the all-important checklist, which you can find by clicking below.

New The Sims 3 Game Update Stops Drink Trays Sticking To Hands, More

EA has released a new game update for The Sims 3, fixing lots of bugs, mainly affecting Late Night. Here’s a choice few:
Late Night Updates
- Hot tubs can now be placed on the balconies of high rise buildings by using the moveobjectson true cheat.
- Vampires now receive the “Slept like the Dead” moodlet after sleeping in the Altar Bed.
- Crying babies will now prompt Sims to leave a hot tub and tend to the baby.
[...]
Base Game Updates
- The tray of drinks will no longer become stuck to a Sim’s hand when performing the “Make Drinks” interaction on regular bars.
- Wall tops are no longer invisible when building on an empty lot on PCs with ATI video cards.
You should be prompted to get the update when you next open the launcher – but make sure you follow the all-important checklist first! - New Sims can now have an Astrological Sign assigned.
- Build/Buy Mode
- Players can now use the Platform Tool to create stages and other elevated spaces.

New The Sims 3 Game Update Makes It Possible To Be Friends With Cars, More

Another The Sims 3 game update has been released, to coincide with the launch of Fast Lane Stuff. It adds a couple of new features that relate to that pack, in fact:
New Features
- Sims that drive extensively can now develop a relationship with their vehicles. Vehicles can be named once a friendship is formed.
- The Vehicle Enthusiast Trait is now available. Sims with this trait can name their vehicles immediately and develop relationships with them more quickly.
There’s also a small number of updates for the base game and World Adventures – to read them, plus that all-important checklist that must be run through before installing, click below and scroll down to the article titled “Game Update for: 1.15/2.10/3.6/4.3″ (can’t find it? Switch to English > United States via the Language link at the bottom of the page):

Those that have the Create a World Tool will need to download and install a new version after installing this update, which can be obtained the same way as earlier versions – from the Create a World Tool page:

New The Sims 3 Game Update Stops Sims Walking On Water

EA has released a new The Sims 3 game update, fixing a lot of issues, including these:
- Dead relatives will no longer appear alive in your Sims’ family trees while traveling to Egypt, China, or France
- Sketches your Sims create using the Drafting Table are now valued properly based on your Sim’s Painting Skill Level and related Profession Level
- Sims will no longer walk on water to view paintings placed on swimming pool walls
- Fixed an “Error 13” issue caused by saving the game immediately before having your Sim give another Sim a makeover
- Ghost Hunter Sims can no longer “Show Off Banshee Banisher” to child Sims
- Fixed issue that prevented players from Changing Active Household while in Edit Town mode
Before you rush off to install it though, there’s some extra steps that may need to be taken, on top of the usual ones. As usual EA have forgotten about Windows Vista and Windows 7 and provided file paths that only apply to Windows XP – the path to the The Sims 3 folder in Windows Vista and Windows 7 is C:\Users\[User name]\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 (the Documents folder appears as My Documents in Windows 7, but this path is still correct). For the extra special steps, the full list of changes, and the usual steps (in that order), click below then find the post titled “Game Update for: 1.14/2.9/3.5/4.2″:

The Sims 3 Game Update Enables Capability For Dynamic Advertising, More (Updated)

To coincide with the launch of The Sims 3 Ambitions this week, EA has released the latest The Sims 3 game update, and there’s a lot of major changes. One of those changes is somewhat dubious, however:
This game update enables dynamic ad serving capabilities in The Sims 3. However, there are no immediate plans to activate any content of this kind. The Sims 3 EULA has further details. See http://www.ea.com/1/product-eulas.
There’s too many other changes to list here, so go to TheSims3.com to read more. You’ll also find those steps that should be taken before installing (and during the installation of) patches there – though, again, Windows Vista and Windows 7 users should note that the location of your game user files will be C:\Users\USER\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3, where USER is your user name, not the Windows File Directory given there, which only applies to Windows XP.

New The Sims 3 Game Update Prevents Sims Getting Stuck In “Grab a Slice” Interaction On Pizza, More

A new game update has been released for The Sims 3, which includes the following fix:
- Base Game: Fixes an issue that causes Sims to get stuck in the “Grab a Slice” interaction on pizza.
(You can see the rest at the bottom of the full news page – click “Read more” if you’re not already there)
As usual, they recommend you follow their “check-list” before updating, which you can find by clicking below and finding the post called “Game Update for: 1.11/2.6/3.2″ – remember that the file directory in Windows Vista and Windows 7 is, by default, C:\Users\USER\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 (the directory they specify only applies to Windows XP):
> News at TheSims3.com (UK)
You can get the update by going to the Game Updates tab in your game launcher, if you’re not prompted to update automatically.
If after updating you get some sort of “code version is incompatible” error, SimGuruHydra has got you covered – scroll to the bottom of the full news page for the details.
There’s also a small update for the Create a World Tool, bringing it to version 1.6 (still beta):
Create a World – Updating compatibility version of Create a World Tool – Beta to be compatible with The Sims 3 to ensure it continues to function with in-game features and the Exchange.
You can apparently get that through the game launcher too.
