New The Sims 3 Game Update Adds Social Features

Friday 2nd March 2012 | 10:32 pm UK time | Categories

You may be more annoyed than excited about them, but regardless, The Sims 3′s new social features are here. The latest update has been released, and here’s what it does:

This game update includes the following changes: Exciting new connected features which allow you to:

  • Post and view messages from your friends while playing, without having to leave or even pause the game.
  • Find new friends and add them to your friends list.
  • Access your Player Profile and Wall from the Options Menu
    • Receive status updates from your friends about their game, and comment!
    • Achievements—view the badges you’ve earned for those you’ve completed, sort and view those you have yet to complete, and find new achievements, which will be introduced to your game regularly!
    • Edit and view your Player Profile, including your avatar, My Story, and wall posts all about you!
    • Get all of the latest and exciting news from The Sims 3!
  • You can now specify what outfit your Sim will wear to work by using a dresser.
  • When a Service NPC joins the family, their special service outfit is added to the wardrobe.

That’s it, so if you were hoping a bug would be fixed, it looks like you’re out of luck. You can get the update through the game launcher, but don’t forget to follow that all-important checklist first — find it at the bottom of the page linked below (if the link doesn’t work, you’ll need to change to English > United States using the Select Language link at the bottom):

A new poll has now begun, and as The Sims 3 Master Suite Stuff came out recently I want to know something simple: have you bought it yet? If you haven’t, why not tell the world why by voting with explanation? Vote now to the right of any page — you have no reason not to. The poll will close on Tuesday 27th March if I’ve received enough votes.

Find Out More About The Sims In Lunar Lakes

Sunday 19th February 2012 | 3:03 pm UK time | Categories

Another blog entry has been posted on TheSims3.com featuring a member of the team behind new town Lunar Lakes. This time it’s Sam Breach, the lead artist overseeing Sim creation for worlds:

We wanted to honor the fact that many of the fearless space adventurers in Lunar Lakes are the brave descendants of Sims who our players already know and admire. The artists on The Sims 3 world-building team love no family more than the Bayless family from Twinbrook. We were overjoyed to be granted our wish of including a Bayless relative in this world. His name is Stefen and he lives with his sweet-natured, flame-haired girlfriend, Anais. Because they live off the grid a little, I imagined her wardrobe as having been created from a natural patchwork of fibers and found materials that contribute to her slightly haphazard, distressed style of clothing.

Lunar Lakes Now Available, Find Out More In New Blog Post

Thursday 16th February 2012 | 8:21 pm UK time | Categories

Lunar Lakes is now available to download from The Sims 3 Store at a sale price of 2200 SimPoints (price will be 2450 SimPoints from the 27th), but if you feel you need to know a bit more about the town, producer Sarah Holding has posted a blog entry introducing it:

Lunar Lakes is by far one of the most unique worlds we have crafted so far in The Sims 3. We very much wanted this world to feel different, yet at the same time, remain true to the core gameplay of The Sims 3. While we can’t change everything (taxis are still taxis, and if you have The Sims 3 Pets installed, then wild horses will be roaming the lunar terrain!) we did make some pretty major changes to alter the feel of the world. We felt our normal rabbitholes would look out of place in Lunar Lakes, so we created portals that hint at subterranean dwellings.

There’s also another blog entry in which a couple of members of the world building team discuss modelling the space ship and designing the lots:

The steps for creating the model was to first build the spacecraft intact and upright. We then rotated it and finally decided to twist the hull slightly. We then slowly started picking away at it so it looked destroyed. Most of our time was spent creating holes, making flaked away panels and adding “new” lights to the cavities. One of the most challenging areas of working on this model was adding the level of detail to the edges of the holes to make The Perigee look destroyed, yet repaired and re-inhabited.

Hidden Springs Now Available At Retail

Thursday 16th February 2012 | 1:10 pm UK time | Categories

Just in time for the launch of Lunar Lakes, the previous town made available to purchase from The Sims 3 Store, Hidden Springs, is now also available in a box at retail stores in North America and Europe. Well, the press release says it’s out in Europe now, but in trying to find out whether there’s just a The Sims 3 Store code in the box (there is), I found that GAME has it down for release on 9th March. Is the press release jumping the gun? If you can wait ’til then (if you’ve waited this long I would have thought so), you’ll save about £2 buying it from GAME rather than directly from The Sims 3 Store (it’s £9.99 from GAME, while it costs 2000 SimPoints at The Sims 3 Store with that number of SimPoints costing £12).

Jet Set Teens Set Free On The Sims 3 Store For One Day Only

Wednesday 15th February 2012 | 11:51 pm UK time | Categories

The Jet Set Teens set is now available for free on The Sims 3 Store, to celebrate The Sims 3′s Facebook page getting 10 million likes, but only for one day. Just “purchasing” the set now will allow you to download it at any time in the future, so you’d might as well. It’ll go back up to its standard price from midnight (presumably US time, otherwise this is a bit short notice).

Ryan Vaughan Discusses The Sims 3 Game Updates In New Blog Post

Sunday 12th February 2012 | 12:31 pm UK time | Categories

The Sims 3 lead producer Ryan Vaughan has posted a new blog entry on TheSims3.com in which he discusses game updates:

As with any new release within The Sims 3 series, there will be a new The Sims 3 Game Update available to all players who have The Sims 3, regardless if you’ve installed The Sims 3 Showtime. This Game Update will be available the same day that The Sims 3 Showtime is available and it doesn’t cost anything. As soon as you install the update, you’ll be able to take advantage of the new Family Wardrobe, Bubble Columns in build mode, and earn badges for achievements!

Whenever we release a Game Update, we get a lot of questions about why they are released. I thought it would be a good idea to give you some background on why we release The Sims 3 Game Updates and all the benefits that come along with them!

New Town Announced, Find Out More At Live Chat Tuesday

Friday 10th February 2012 | 11:50 pm UK time | Categories

EA has announced another town to be released on The Sims 3 Store, called Lunar Lakes. The name, picture and limited details given suggest it’s set on another planet. And there are very limited details, as the first I’ve heard of it is in the page for a live chat about the town which will take place on Tuesday at 10 am PST (that’s 6 pm GMT/UTC), and that doesn’t say much at all about the town itself. So I guess we can find out about it by watching the show. You can see the aforementioned picture and register for a reminder email on the page.
